Hi HollyJxxx,

Some bars want people who can speak Spanish and English. This is a list of bars who have a lot of English customers and might take on someone with no Spanish: San Andreu, Quo Vadis, El Cau, Al Derbi, Hotels Montane and Micolau.
If you can find someone to offer you a job, it will take about two weeks to get a work permit. As a new employee, you must have a medical which consists of an X-ray and a blood test. After the results of the test, there is a touchy feely examination before you get a work permit.
The English clients will arrive on 21st December and the bars will probably want staff to work from then. So get there at least 2 weeks before then. Be warned, the 6,7 and 8 Dec. is a big Spanish holiday, so hotel will be full and immigration will not be open.
Accommodation: Before the 6th Dec some Hotels will offer very cheap rooms but after that they get expensive. Most people rent a share a flat. A one bed flat cost about 600 euros a month. The agent wants 3 months up front. The national minimum wage was about 860 euros a month last year, so if you do not share, you will not have much cash left to buy me a drink.
This may sound all very pessimistic, but if you persevere you will have a great time. It really is a friendly resort. I may put out a longer version of this, a little later as "number one's report" for the benefit of others. Good luck

Hi, Yes, it will take just under two weeks to get your work permit. The immigration office will give you a date to attend the hospital to give blood. The hospital will give you a date for the medical with the doctor. It all takes time. Do not worry we were all very cconfused with the system the first time.
You MUST bring your police report from the UK. Apply to your local police station for details held under the Data Protection Act, It cost £10 last year. Do not aply for it until about September as it must be under 3 months old when you present it to immigration.
It sounds difficult but you will have a great time if you do the whole season. Stick at it.
