Free Mobile Guidebooks
19th January 2008

We have just heard about the site www.ski-ride.co.uk which is offering mobile phone based guides to Arinsal and a number of other ski areas. The guides are free to download and install on your phone and are full of handy information on the ski area and the surrounding region.

Almost fully open
16th January 2008

Almost all of the ski area is now open. All but the lifts in Arinsal and Pal are open except for four drag lifts. The link between the two areas is open now as are the majority of the runs. The fun park in Arinsal is also looking good for this time of year - there is a reasonable sized kicker, a selection of rails and the halfpipe was cut and opened last weekend.

Already the snow is much better than most of last season, and it is still snowing hard right now. So if you haven't booked yet because you are waiting to see what the snow does - it is here now.

So It Begins

22nd December 2007

Empty Pistes
Empty pistes last week

Well, the wait is almost over. The first tour operator guests arrive tomorrow, and the town will be transformed from a quiet village into a bustling winter resort. Most of the runs are now open, along with the cable car link over to Seturia (the closest part of the Pal ski area). The photo was taken from the ski school last week.

All Chairlifts Open
17th December 2007

All of Arinsal's chairlifts are now open, along with the Gondola and the beginner lifts. The only lifts yet to open in the Arinsal sector are the drag lifts. It is possible to ski from top to bottom on all of the main beginner and intermediate runs. The snow machines are doing their jobs and more natural snow is forecast from Thursday onwards, lasting a few days. The link to Seturia and Pal is still closed, but it is likely to be open by next week.

The approach here at the moment seems to be to keep the runs closed while it is quiet in order to build up a good base of snow that can be maintained all season. The runs that are open generally have good quality snow, and everything is being done to ensure that as many runs as possible are open for the busy period beginning next week.

Snow, snow, snow!
10th December 2007

The white stuff has finally arrived. After a week of hearing reports of how much snow is falling in the Alps, our turn has come. It began last night, we woke up to six inches down in the village, it has carried on snowing hard all day and it is still snowing now.

Six man chair open

6th December 2007

As Number One pointed out in the Forum , the express six man chairlift opened yesterday. This is the biggest and newest lift in the resort, so its opening is a big step forward towards being fully open.  The skiing is on artificial snow at the moment so the quantity is still limited but the quality is good. Yesterday was quiet but today has been busier due to a bank holiday weekend in Spain. Snowfalls are forecast over the next few days, with a couple of cold fronts due to pass over us, so we may see significantly more runs open by next week.

Opening Party Season

4th December 2007

This week is seeing a flurry of parties as the bars in the resort gear up for the season. Last Saturday the Quo Vadis had their opening party. Ciscos will have their opening night bash on Thursday, closely followed by El Derbi on Friday. El Cau are having their second opening party on Saturday night, so they will be officially open (as opposed to unofficially open this week).

In other news, it has been raining in the town, but snowing higher up. When the clouds parted this afternoon the mountains had turned from green to white. We will keep you posted as soon as more runs open in the ski areas.
