The Nail Game

Rules

Preparation…

• •  There is one nail per player
• •  Each player may select his or her location in the log for their nail.
• •  Each nail is hammered into the log until it stands firm.
• •  The start player is chosen by spinning the hammer, or a nail, or by any other suitable means. Play passes from player to player in turn either clockwise or anticlockwise as agreed by all.

Play…

1. Each player in turn makes one attempt to hammer the nail into the wood with the sharp end of the hammer ! The game continues until ALL nails are flush with the wood.
2. A player may touch the nail with the hammer, but ‘tapping' is not allowed. If a player breaks this rule, miss a go.
3. A player may straighten their nail, or make firm a loose nail, using the hammer. No penalty.
4. After taking their turn, each player must pass the hammer to the next player. Failing to pass the hammer to the correct person – miss a go.
5. Any sign of aggression – Buy a round of drinks.
6. Touch the nail or the wood, (except with the hammer) – miss a go.
7. The first person to drive the nail flush with the surface of the wood gets to choose the ‘shots' for everyone in the game. The usual test is to see if a fingernail can slide underneath the head of the nail. If it can't, the nail is done.
8. The game continues with the remaining players until only one player has a nail still proud. When only one player remains, that is the player that buys the ‘shots'. That player MUST then continue play – see rule 9.
9. The last player is allowed FIVE attempts to hit their nail flush. If the nail is still not flush, then for every further attempt to hit the nail flush that player must remove an article of clothing.
10. Failure to fully comply with rule 9 incurs a forfeit of the management's choosing !!
