Fly - Drive

Fly drive is an increasingly popular option these days. With three or four people in the car, or for a shorter visit, the price often works out cheaper than the transfer bus service, and once in resort you have the freedom to ski in neighbouring resorts. You also have the option of using accomodation outside the resort itself, and the opportunity to see a little more of Andorra while you are here.

These days, with online booking and navigation aids available, hiring a car abroad has never been easier. If you haven't already done so you can search for flights using our flight planner page.

Car Hire Companies

The following companies offer online pre-booking of a rental car from any of the local airports. Special offers change regularly so it is worth checking a few prices.

Holiday Autos
Hertz
Record Rent a Car
Sixt

Directions

One thing that often puts people off renting a car abroad is worrying about route finding. The links below will take you to Google maps directions to Arinsal from each of the major airports (links open in a new window). Whilst the directions are pretty good, and the route is not complicated, it is essential to have a road atlas as well, unless you are using satelite navigation, which the hire car companies all offer as an upgrade (or you can take your own). I would recomend purchasing a French or Spanish road atlas before you go, as well as printing off these directions.

Driving regulations

Apart from the obvious (drive on the wrong side, speeds and distances in km not miles) there are a few other differences you need to be aware of. The speed limits are different in each country and Andorra has recently invested in its first speed cameras. There is also complulsory equipment such as snow chains and warning triangles. The table below sumarises the rules in France, Spain and Andorra since of course you have to drive through one of the others to get here. The speed limits can be changed by local signage, just like at home, and the information given here is a guide, not a definitive list. More information is available from the AA.
